Fucking Little Island People 2019

Fucking Little Island People is an installation based work that explores the ideas of colonized slurs adapted into modern slang. The work consists of five materially different text representations of the word “Flip”, all hung by nails, divided onto three different walls. When the audience walks into the room, it is read left to right. First it is a cork board cut out spelling “FLIP”, it’s messy and sloppy. Then the cut outs from the cork are visibly nailed to the wall, to show the aggression of the word that is being represented. Next, FLIP is in a frame on a white paper with bold black text, which conveys a progression in material and displaying towards more polish contemporary representation. The next word is framed by a brown rustic frame. Then the word is presented to be spelt out with bright EL wire. Lastly, another set of EL lights are framed in a cleaner frame and presented as the finish creation of the word.
